write a letter compaining about the expansion of the airport near your home.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to protest the proposed expansion of the airport which is located very close to my neighbourhood.
Your newspaper published an article promoting
this
proposal and highlighted the importance of this
development. Despite the possible improvement in the tourism industry, I should point out some of the problems which will deteriorate the situation in the area.
Firstly
, there will be an increase in the number of flights which provide unnecessary noise pollution in this
residential area. As a result
, the tranquillity of the neighbourhood and people will be targeted through this
unwise plan. Secondly
, a huge amount of land that has been the playground for our children will be demolished due to the construction of the airport terminals and other associated buildings. This
may have irreparable effects on the growth of the new generations in this
area.
I, therefore
, would like to ask you to take this
particular matter into consideration.
I look forward to reading a critical article in your upcoming release.
yours faithfully

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
