The graph illustrates the recycling
percentages
of
waste
in the U.S. from 1960 to 2011 and the total
waste
recovery
in million tons during these
years
. Beginning from 1960, the recycling
rate
remained almost constant for the
first
three
years
with
percentages
being less than 7, but after that, it gradually increased and reached 34.7% in 2011.
On the other hand
,
waste
recovery
has shown a slight increase from the start. The major hike is witnessed from the year 1990 to 1995 when the
waste
recovery
shooted from 33.2% to 55.8%. In comparison with recycling
percentages
, it is seen that the
waste
recovery
was lesser in the initial
years
, but it raised from the year 1970 and stood more than the recycling
rate
till 2011. The
waste
recycling
rate
showed the greatest increase in the two
years
after 1985 and 1990 when
percentages
increased from nearly 5% and 9% respectively. Overall, we can conclude that the recycling
rate
and the volume of the
waste
recovered are greatest in the year 2011 because the graph shows an increasing trend throughout.
