You have borrowed something from your friend and it got damaged. Write a letter to your friend. In the letter: - apologise for the damage to the item - explain what happened - say how you are going to fix the issue

Dear Tom, Hope you are doing fine ! I am writing
this
letter to let you know about the suitcase I borrowed from you. As you know, you really saved my life
last
month by giving me your luggage for my journey to the South of France. Without it, I was not able to bring any clothes with me and I asked myself if I needed to cancel my travel. Unfortunately, the plane company lost my luggage, I am not lucky at all. Hopefully, they found it 2 days after the landing but in bad condition... I believe you cannot use it anymore.
Therefore
, I bought a new bag during my vacation but a really cheaper one because I was certainly not giving away all my clothes. I know your suitcase was expensive as it was a present from your mother. I will definitely buy you the same but I was wondering if you agree to wait 2 weeks as it should be on sale. Plus, Let me treat you to lunch
also
on Friday and in the meantime, I will give you the little gift I bought you in France. See you soon. Lea
