“A lot of people believe that the amount of violence shown on TV and in the cinema affects the actions of our young people and therefore increases the amount of violence in our society today. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? What can be done to reduce violence in our society today?“
Both younger and older audiences are exposed to several types of
media
such
as TV, the cinema and the Internet. Their consumption is a key factor in daily life, being one of the main sources of entertainment and the main topic of conversation with peers. Violent topics and behaviour
are often a part of this
media
. I strongly believe that overexposure to these can have adverse effects on the young mind.
First of all, children and adolescents are among the most impressionable audiences, making them susceptible to mimicking any kind of behaviour
, which corresponds to the one that is
perceived. The portrayal of violent behaviour
and topics is present almost among all types of media
, therefore
being hard to avoid. Consequently
, there is a higher risk of children being indirectly encouraged to reenact improper actions. As they are mostly in contact with family and peers, this
results in reenactment amongst
them. More parental involvement and correction will likely result in less violence being seen, Change preposition
among
thus
less violence being re-enacted.
Secondly
, the characters linked to these kinds of roles are often likeable and notably reimbursed. This
creates a notion that it is justified behaving accordingly
. When this
thought process is brought to social situations, between classmates and family members, it creates a hazardous environment, where there is a lack of presence of proper morality. Furthermore
, this
rises greater consequences, such
as an altogether increase in misdemeanours both institutionally and societally. For instance
, individuals may start to not act accordingly
to school regulations at first,
which later on could progress into more detrimental crime afflicting a larger chunk of the community. Correction of behaviour
in school and home is essential, however
, a decline in exposure is preferable as it is the root of the problem.
In conclusion, I firmly do believe that the display of inappropriate themes has an adverse effect on a child's development on several counts. Measures such
as proper moderation of media
by all kinds of figures in guardianship together with
the lowering portrayal of violent acts in movies and shows should be in pursuit.Submitted by sarahberger2003 on
