One of your neighbor’s children has accidentally broken the front window of your car. You should write a letter to his/her parents and in your letter you should • introduce yourself • explain how it happened • and what they should do.

Dear Mr. Udoh, I am Mrs. Onyinyechi Osbert, a light skinned lady who reside on the second floor of house 34 New Kingstone Estate Apapa, which coincidentally is few blocks away from your home as explained by your ward,
Victor
. I hope
this
meets you well. I am writing
this
letter to report an incident that happened on Friday evening being the 10th day of March 2023. I was driving home when i noticed young boys were playing football within the primary institution premises located along health centre road. I was almost driving past the school when i saw the ball move across the school fence on high speed and it suddenly struck my car windscreen causing terrible damage to it instantly. I found a convinent space to park
while
some of the boys came out to the road side to pick their ball and probably see my affected vehicle. The first action i had to take was to find out the cost of the damage so i placed a call across to a motor parts vendor at that instance who quoted fifty five thousand naira as the cost of replacing my damaged front glass. I went ahead to inquire from the boys to who kicked the ball which
such
a force that it went beyond the school premises to the road to avoid accusing the innocent and was informed it was your son,
Victor
Udoh. Ordinarily,i would have requested for an outright replacement of my screen but the deep expression of remorse that
Victor
showed made me have a rethink and i have decided to bear half of the cost of repair
while
the other half will come from you, his parents as
Victor
explained that he is just fifteen years old and doesn't earn a living yet. Below is my phone number in case you have
further
queries.
Also
written down is the motor parts vendor account details: 0808123576 Bank name: Guarantee Trust Account name: Achebe Automobile ventures Account number: 0034761357 Thank you in anticipation of your prompt response. Yours sincerely, Osbert Onyinyechi

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
