When it comes to closing stores
, Figures fluctuated between 6000 and 7000 in the first 3 years of the shown period. However
, these numbers
decreased sharply in 2005 to less than 1000. After 2016, the number of closing stores
plateaued nearly at 5000 until 2018.
Meanwhile, opening stores
showed a different trend with a dramatic decrease in 2012 as the figures dropped from approximately 9000 to around 5000 which represents a 50% fall. Afterwards, these numbers
fluctuated between 2012 and 2015 raging from 4000 and 6000 new openings with a peak of 6000 seen in 2014. The numbers
didn't show a big variance in the following 2 years until 2017 when new stores
' numbers
