The diagram shows the coponents of a neuron and how it Works
The diagram illustrates the various parts of a neutron and their function.
Overall
, the process includes 6 components, between the cell body on the left and the Terminal buttons on the right.
To begin
, on the left, the cell body or soma is encircled by dendrites. The dendrites have a structure like a branch-like and become thinner towards the ends. The function of dendrites is to collect messages from other cells. In the middle of a neuron, an axon receives messages from the soma and
then
transmits them to other neutrons, muscles or glands.
Next,
the axon is covered by myelin sheaths which help to accelerate (=speed up) neutral impulses. In order to pass messages away, a neutron needs an electrical signal to travel along the length of the axon and
this
is called an action potential.
At the end
of the process, these Terminal buttons enable a neutron to form junctions with other cells.
