Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer. Discuss both views and give out your opinion.

Some individuals hold the view that universities just carry out a mission about providing
knowledge
without caring whether it is actually necessary for
learners
. Meanwhile, others think that higher education plays a vital role in teaching not only
knowledge
but
also
practical
skills
. In my opinion, I believe that the latter teaching style should be encouraged in universities and colleges. On the one hand, tertiary education just aims to convey available
knowledge
in books, regardless of whether it is necessary or useful for future jobs. That core information can just support
learners
in a general view of that
knowledge
. In
this
teaching style,
learners
might lack the abilities and
skills
to face real situations. Electrical majors,
for instance
, undergraduates merely learn on-book
knowledge
without doing experiments or practices;
as a result
, they could lead to serious mistakes
while
fixing electric lines in their future jobs.
On the other hand
, I believe that a university is an ideal place for undergraduates not only to have a deeper insight into their major but
also
to support
learners
to experiment with real practices. Thanks to these practical experiences,
learners
can understand
knowledge
deeply and hone some useful
skills
from these lessons. Take the educational job for an example, teachers should know how to connect to children and know how to pursue them to obey. In conclusion, some people believe that tertiary education’s function is to give undergraduates access to
knowledge
without regard to its usefulness and application in real life.
However
, I think that universities should combine teaching
knowledge
and
skills
, and
also
pay attention to whether it is useful for
learners
’ life in the future job.
