Some people think that intelligence is innate while others think that it can be improved with learning. Discuss both views and give your opinion

The debate on the concept of
intelligence
is an ongoing process.
While
some believe that intellect is predominantly dependent upon genetics, others argue that it can be enhanced with knowledge and learning.
This
essay will discuss both perspectives and will explain why I contend that both factors play a role in an individual's success. Those who are in favour of the innate perspective believe that acumen is predetermined by inheritance from parents to offspring.
According to
this
view, individuals are born with a certain level of acumen that remains the same throughout their life.
This
is
further
backed by research that suggests that there are genes in the human body that are responsible for
intelligence
. They
further
emphasize that education can only improve
one
's knowledge but it has no impact on an individual's underlying
intelligence
.
This
is exemplified by the fact that
although
a number of people study arts or science, only a handful of them emerges as successful scientists and artists.
On the contrary
, many people contend that it can be improved with learning and experiences. Since the human brain is a malleable organ it can adapt and grow through experience.
Therefore
, engaging in activities that stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving would improve
one
's intellectual capacities.
For instance
, many people that are not born intelligent still successfully manage to achieve the same level of success or sometimes even more by working hard and improving their mistakes. To summarise, considering both views I believe that smartness is determined by a combination of genetics and learning.
While
genetics contribute to basic cognitive abilities, education, exposure to diverse experiences, and a commitment to continuous learning undoubtedly nurture and enhance it to maximise
one
's intellectual potential.
Therefore
, no matter what level of
intelligence
one
has,
one
should always work hard to prosper in life.
