It is generally agreed that fewer people today write letters (through the mail or post) campared with the twentieth century. What factors have led to this situations? what will the impact be on the lives of future generations?

It has been accepted that people tend not to write to each other in the form of mail or envelope like the previous trend a century ago. I believe there are some factors here, and I will explain them now. Perhaps the major factor here is the widespread use of social media that has allowed people to write for each other whenever possible. They even can have video calls with their entourage and
also
send them the video that has been taken a moment ago so, sitting behind the desk and preparing a formal text become obsolete. Nowadays individuals even affix an emoji to their text to send them through social Media. The second factor could be the importance of 'self' in our era, where one doesn't have a tendency to connect to their friends or relatives.
This
self-assertive attitude leads many to refuse to write to each other. In extreme cases, even some parents suffer from
this
trait in their children. The third factor could be the fast pace of life in which no one hardly could find a chance to write emotionally and somehow formally to their counterparts.  We know that
this
trend could have a negative effect on social behaviours
in particular
on children who are the potential next generations. They may think that the entire concept of relationship happens in social media and factual ones are worthless and even doesn't exist.
This
essentially can lead to
further
isolation in adulthood. They
also
learn It doesn't worth being in contact with relatives and even with parents. In future, we may encounter a huge population who prefers to live their own life which dysfunctional societies may be its outcome.
To sum up
, considering writing letter an old-fashion trend cause some problem and have a significant effect on society as a whole.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
