the overall
amount of travellers increased throughout the years for all the considered regions, with a steep rise for coastal travel, modest growth for mountain
areas, and a wild fluctuation for lake tourism.
Coastal and mountain
tourism enjoyed a roughly stable increase in the number of tourists throughout the considered time interval. The number of visitors
in mountain
areas almost doubled in 20 years, climbing from 20 000 people to slightly below 40 000 tourists. Coastal tourism saw a slight decrease from 1987 to 1992 but then
surged by 40000 visitors
in 1992 to almost 80000 in 2007.
The number of foreigners to the lake area of the European country steadily rose from 1987 to 1997, then
steeply jumped from 40000 to roughly 80000 but then
sank by almost 50% in the following ten years, reaching a total of 50000 visitors
