In many countries, the proportion of older people is steadily increasing. Does this trend have positive or negative effects on society?

The technological advance and the increment of
people
's wealth result in the extension of life expectancy.
Although
old
people
can contribute to society, the demographic change made to a number of problems. One problem associated with an ageing population is that there will be a dramatic increase in the expense of health treatment, which imposes a burden on taxpayers. Most medical needs and costs will appear in the later years.
Therefore
, it is necessary for the government to spend plenty of money on taking care of them
whereas
some essential services will face a lack of funds. Another problem is that with the increasing number of senior workers, the pace of
work
becomes slow. The ability to absorb information and complete
work
declines when they get older. The aged prolonging working lives, perhaps they have a negative effect on companys’ productivity and profitability.
On the other hand
, many
people
choose to postpone retirement and a stent working life,
while
their experience and wisdom are valuable assets. As long as
people
enjoy a longer lifespan, they decide to stay in the workforce and they are experts in fields of their
work
. They are able to
work
as consultants and spread their knowledge and techniques to the young generation.
For instance
, some experienced managers choose to teach young adults how to manage a company
as well as
how to serve clients better. Prolonging life expectancy drastically puts pressure on health care in many countries
as well as
influences the output of labour. We can tap into old
people
’s wisdom but
this
makes a difference to economic development.
