Your friend has been offered a place on a course at the university where you studied. He/she would like your advice about finding a place to live. Write an email to your friend. In your email, describe where you lived when you were a student at the university recommend the best way for him/her to look for accommodation warn him/her of mistakes students make when choosing accommodation You should write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows: Dear........................,

Dear Son, How have you been? It's been a year since the
last
time we hung out in Hanoi, hasn't it? I am quite surprised and delighted when seeing your post on Instagram about your decision to join Durham College
this
year. As someone who graduated from there, I am certain that you will have a great academic experience in the next 3 years of your program. With that being said, I would like to give you some pieces of advice or two regarding the accommodation in Oshawa. During my 4 years of study, I spent the first 4 months staying in the college's dormitory before renting an upstairs room living with an old couple and settling there till graduation. It would be best for you to do the same. To do so, my recommendation is to look for any ad posts in the international student groups on Facebook and verify the contacts properly before seeing the room and discussing the contract. I would be against living in the dormitory
due to
the cost and the food is not tasty in my opinion.
Additionally
,
while
looking for a house, please beware of any posts with low monthly rent. These places are often either located at a location
that is
far from the nearest bus stop or the room condition is not in good shape.
Also
, please take the landlord's and roommates' backgrounds into consideration as well. Differences in terms of culture and personality can cause misunderstanding and miscommunication. Please do consider these pieces of advice and feel free to reach out to me at any time for life in Durham College. I genuinely hope you will have a good time here. Best wishes, Erikson

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
