In the past, when students did a university degree, they tended to study in their own country. Nowadays, they have more opportunity to study abroad. What are the advantages and disadvantages to study abroad?

In the
last
few years, it has become very popular to go abroad to get a university degree after graduating from school, college or university,
whereas
, previous generations have preferred to
study
in their local universities. In
this
essay, I would like to describe the benefits and drawbacks of
this
development. First of all, studying abroad is considered to be more prestigious in my country. It is apparent that in current times there are way more opportunities to
study
abroad than ever, because nowadays the government, universities and private funds offer a lot of scholarships for young people, who are eager for knowledge. Usually, a scholarship covers most of the expenses like tuition, accommodation and travel fees.
However
, it is extremely hard and competitive to get an international scholarship, and without a scholarship, only minor people can afford to apply to
study
abroad. That`s why
along with
a great experience and access to better knowledge, students tend to
study
in highly developed countries to be more attractive for job employers and get a highly-paid job. In my life, I experienced
this
kind of situation, when my sister, who got her master`s degree in the USA applied to one company and was hired instantly without a job interview after confirmation of her diploma.
However
, there are
also
drawbacks. Living and studying abroad require a large amount of money and can be a burden to their families. In some countries, people collect money for the whole of their life or take loans to give their offspring a better life. Especially,
this
tendency can be observed in China nowadays, where every fifth family send their child to
study
abroad.
To sum up
, getting a university degree in a foreign educational institution offers many opportunities, but the downsides of
this
adventure should be taken into consideration when making
such
an important decision.
