write a letter to a friend. You have borrowed something from your friend and it got damaged. Apologise for damaging the product. Explain what happened. Say how are you going to fix the issue.

Dear Timothy, I am writing
this
letter to explain the situation with the
guitar
you lent me
instead
of calling you over the phone because of how ashamed I am of the situation and how embarrassing it is. I'd like to sincerely express how sorry I am for doing the one thing you expressly cautioned against - damaging the fretboard of the acoustic
guitar
.
Although
it wasn't an intentional action on my part, I feel like I have betrayed your trust and I am quite remorseful for not taking as much care as expected to keep the instrument safe. To be honest, I had safely kept it away in my closet after using it for the two shows I had told you about.
However
, my apartment was due for some renovation work and as
such
, I had quite a few handymen in the house. One of these handymen, on clearing out the closet to gain access to a pipe, had taken out the
guitar
and out of curiosity opened the case to have a good look at it. He forgot to close the case when he was done and it fell out when he was ready to move things back to the closet. To remedy the situation, I have taken the
guitar
to the best luthier shop in town, Martin & Co., for repairs. The attendant promised to have Mr Martin himself work on the fretboard and get back in shape within three days. I expect to receive it back by the end of the week. I hope you find it in your heart to forgive my negligence and not be crossed with me.
Also
, I look forward to seeing you in person to hand over the fixed instrument and apologise face-to-face. Yours lovingly, Ope

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
