With the rapid development of communication technology, such as smart phones, tablets, and other mobile devices. Some people think the disadvantages outweigh its advantages. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true to say that
due to
the advancement of technology, there is a rapid growth of
communication
gadgets
such
as mobile
phones
, iPads, smartphones and more.
However
, some people argue that the drawbacks outweigh its benefits. I partially agree with the statement that
this
advancement has more disadvantages than advantages.
While
I acknowledge that there are merits to
this
viewpoint, I
also
firmly believe that the drawbacks of these technologies outweigh their benefits.
To begin
with, there are various factors why some are not in favour of
this
trend.
Firstly
, electronic gadgets are harmful specifically to youngsters. They are becoming more captivated by smartphones, which is having a detrimental effect on their mental development and social skills. Excessive use of tablets and other devices leads to social isolation as individuals spend more time interacting with screens than with real people.
Secondly
, they are
also
adopting a sedentary lifestyle and spending long hours watching or posting social media reels, which leads to many health issues
such
as eyestrain, sleep disturbance and mental development.
Additionally
, individuals tend to engage with mobile
phones
during their jobs or
while
driving, which contributes to notable distractions.
For example
, the majority of accidents on the roads occur
due to
the use of mobile
phones
, which distracts the drivers from their task of driving.
On the other hand
, many believe that the development of
communication
technology has several advantages. Nowadays, human beings can easily communicate with their loved ones who live far away, which is a significant improvement compared to the past.
Communication
technology enables individuals to seek help in emergencies, which is a valuable aspect of these technologies.
Furthermore
, the internet and digital
communication
have made it possible for information to be shared rapidly and widely, facilitating education, research and access to news.
For example
,
due to
the fast evolution in
communication
devices, GPS and navigation apps on smartphones have made travel more efficient, reducing time spent lost and fuel consumption.
To conclude
,
although
there are numerous benefits of digital devices that make life easier, from my perspective the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. These drawbacks include social isolation, a sedentary lifestyle, and a negative impact on physical and mental well-being.
Consequently
, I believe that human beings should primarily use tablets and mobile
phones
for
communication
purposes rather than entertainment.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
