Some people think visual images (like photographs and videos) can tell information more accurately in a news story, while others think they cannot represent the full story. Discuss both views and give your opinion
They say that a picture in a newspaper article is capable of depicting the entire event, yet some argue that it does not. In
this
essay, I will share reasons for both views while
presenting an opinion of my own at the end
.
To begin
with, images or videos do hold more evidentiary value than the mere words of the journalist. There is no doubt that the capture of the real event in the film will share more details than the human brain can remember when writing about the event. For example
, an image of a UFO will not only prove the validity of the news
article but also
show many hidden clues that the reporter may have missed when publishing the story
. This
is a major point for arguing that pictures or videos are indeed more informative than the actual news
report.
However
, there is also
the argument that visual aids alone are incapable of sharing the news
in its entirety. This
is also
true when considering the various ways one may interpret a visual aid if it is provided with no context. To illustrate, a video of a celebrity slapping someone with no context may be seen as an assault, while
in fact, they were shooting for a movie. As a result
, it is easily possible to create misinformation with visuals
that don't have background information. Especially considering that pictures or videos are capable of telling a thousand stories as opposed to the actual one.
To conclude
, visuals
certainly give more power to tell a story
but they cannot express the full story
when presented without any context. Therefore
, I think that news
reports with a detailed account from the journalist are necessary in order to complement the visuals
that may be published with it. Both the features are dependent on each other but visuals
on their own cannot share the accurate story
