The table shows forested land in millions of hectares in different parts of the world.
The given table indicates how the amount of land which was forested in six different regions changed over two decades, starting from 1990. All data is measured in millions of hectares (
MH
).
Overall
it can be seen that the area of forest decreased continuously in Africa, Oceania and South America
while
the forested land increased in Europe over the following period. Furthermore
, the woodland area in North America
jumped slightly in the last
decade.
Looking at the data sets in Africa, Oceania and South America
in detail it is clear that
the amount of jungle significantly dropped from 749 MH
in 1990 to 691 MH
in 2005 in the African region. On the other hand
, 199 MH
of land in Oceania went down steadily to 197 MH
over 2 decades. In addition
, South American statistics experienced the largest deforestation accounting for 64 MH
which ended at 882 million hectares in 2005.
Turning to the information sets in Asia, Europe and North America
in more detail it is evident that the figure in Europe stood at 989 MH
in 1990 which gradually rose to 1001 MH
in 2005. In Asia, the figure initially
fell slowly however
it climbed up consequently
to 584 MH
in 2005. The jungle area in North America
declined to 705 in 2000 from 708 in 1990 and finally
, it remained the same in 2005.Submitted by jonahid.stu20ju on
