The given line graph provides data on the proportion of English and Welsh families who lived in owning and renting houses over an interval of 23 years.
Overall
, the
number
 of households who were tenants experienced a noticeable fall
while
 the
number
 of house owners rose remarkably throughout the given period.
According to
 the line graph, in 1918, the proportion of tenants was almost 20%, the minimum percentage between 1918 to 2011,
then
 the
number
 of tenants saw a doubling and reached 40% in 1971.
This
 was followed by another increase and peaked at a little less than 70% in 2001.
Finally
, the upward trend broke and stood at just over 60%. As the line graph demonstrates, the highest
number
 of house owners could be witnessed in 1918 by nearly 80%.
However
, the figure for families who owned houses experienced a considerable decline until 2001 and stood at almost 30%, the lowest amount over the period shown. Ultimately,
this
 proportion grew slightly and reached 35% in 2011.
