The two pie charts show the average spending by households in a country at two different points in its economic development. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts illustrate the proportion of expenditures on various household
items
in a particular country in the years 1920 and 2000.
Overall
, compared to other sectors, spending on food fell substantially, whereas
expenses on recreation and other items
rose dramatically making it the greatest share of expenditures in the year 2000.
In 1920, the percentage
spent on food, household goods, fuel and light were 71.9%, 3.2%, and 6.6% respectively. Although
the share of expenditures on these three items
decreased in the next eight decades, it was only the fraction of food expenses that dropped significantly, to nearly one-fifth. The percentage
spending on the other two only fell slightly, with household goods becoming the least spent on items
in 2020.
The other items
in the chart showed an increase going from 1920 to 2000, in terms of percentage
expenditure. The greatest increase in share was experienced by recreation and other items
, jumping from 7.7% (1920) to 34.2% (2000). Costs of education, travelling and communication also
showed notable expansion, rising from 1.7% to 6%, and 3.3% to 14.3% respectively, from 1920 to 2000. The percentage
of money going into other sectors did not show much change.Submitted by arefinneloy1 on
