Dear Alex, I hope you find my letter in the best of spirits. I'm writing
this
letter to convey my apologies for my absence from your
birthday
party. When I received your invitation to attend your
birthday
party, I was so excited to join.
This
is the golden chance to meet all our college friends after a long time. But unfortunately, a day before your
birthday
, I fell down from few stairs, and my right knee got hurt very badly.
This
is the reason I was not able to be a part of your
birthday
celebrations. On the one side where I feel sorry for my absence, I would
also
like to take
this
opportunity to make
this
birthday
special for you as
along with
this
letter, I sent you the iPhone watch. I know you are fond of iPhone products, and the
last
time we spoke, you told me about your plan to buy the iPhone watch. So, I'm pleased to get
this
opportunity to share your joy. I hope that you will understand my situation, and will be happy with the present I bought for you. Yours truly, Alicia

Coherence and Cohesion
You started your letter with an appropriate greeting and ended with a proper closing, maintaining a suitable format. However, it would benefit from more varied sentence structures to enhance flow and interest.
Task Achievement
While you did address all parts of the task prompt, expanding on your main ideas with more detail and developing your explanation in the second paragraph could further improve your response. Consider adding distinct examples or consequences of your actions to elaborate.

Use a variety of complex and simple sentences

You should use complex sentences in your writing, but it does not mean that you should try to make all of our sentences complex.

‘Complex’ sentences are not actually very complex; they are just two or more simple sentences put together. Putting them together makes the essay more coherent and cohesive.

Examples:

I really want to study but I’m too tired.

I wore a warm coat because the weather was cold.

If action is not taken soon on climate change, global warming will get worse.
