The bar chart illustrates the number of

is owned or rented in England and Wales over the period from 1918 to 2011. Looking from an
overall
perspective, the
percentage
of
households
in owned
accommodation
rose over time,
while
the ones of rented housing decreased from 1918 to 2011. There was a balance between owned and rented
accommodation
in 1971. In 1918, almost 80% of all
households
by that time were in owned
accommodation
. By 1939, the
percentage
for them dropped to nearly 70% and maintained till 1953. From 1961 to 2001, there was a significant decline in the
percentage
of users who owned
households
from approximately 60% to 30 %. In the
last
decade of research the data increased to nearly 35%. The
percentage
of rental housing represented almost a mirrored dynamics from owned one, starting from approximately 25% and ending at around 65%.
