 period of time, our hometown has many facilities and is surrounded by some breathtaking views of the scenery. I am writing on behalf of myself and my neighbours to express our collective concerns regarding the proposed construction of a factory in our area. The environmental impact of the factory could lead to increased pollution, affecting air and water quality.

The letter should be structured with clear paragraphs separating different ideas. Each paragraph should introduce and develop a single idea related to the prompt.

Ensure you address all the aspects of the task. While you mentioned the problems the factory could cause and suggested the Council to reconsider, it is unclear what specific problems you think might arise or where you believe the factory would be better situated.

Politeness and formality are good, but the letter's closing could be perceived as presumptuous. 'I look forward to hearing the good news' assumes that the Council will agree with your request. It may be better to express hope for a favorable decision instead.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
