The chart below gives information about the high-speed continuous internet connection of households in five countries in 2001 and 2002.
The two charts provide an overview of Internet connections in five developed countries between 2001 and 2002 when they all experienced an upward trend with varying degrees.
Overall
, the key point is that America had the highest proportion of web connections in 2002
while
Britain highlighted the quickest growth rate. The most significant feature is that the Internet penetration rate was the highest in the USA in 2002. With 93 per 1,000 people having access to cyberspace in 2001,
this
figure rose rapidly to approximately 252 per 1,000 people in 2002. South Korea witnessed the highest ratio with 122 per 1,000 Koreans in 2001, but only slightly increased to nearly 135 the next year, second to that of the USA. Switzerland, Germany and Britain indicated more or less similar levels in both years and far less than that of the top two countries. Turning to the table, we can see that, as is expected, Britain had an astonishing 230% increase rate in its Internet availability, though its absolute number was still very small in 2002. In second place was the USA, but its percentage change was only about three-fourths of the UK's. The counterparts of Switzerland and Germany were 120% and 80%, respectively,
whereas
South Korea had only 20%.
