Visitors can be categorised into two groups based on their accommodations which are cruise ships and the place on the island
. There were changes in trends of both groups over the past years.
The trend of visitors staying outside the island
gradually increased from 1 million
in 2010 to 2.75 million
approximately in 2016 and then
sharply went up to 3.5 million
in 2017. Meanwhile, the number of visitors who stayed on the island
fluctuated. It slowly climbed up from 0.75 million
in 2011 to 1.5 million
in 2013 and then
remained stable for a few years. After that, it slightly dropped in 2016 and rose again in 2017.
