The diagram illustrates the formation of the Monarch butterfly.
Overall
,there are 4 main stages in the life cycle, starting from the egg stage to the adult stage.
The first step is
to lay eggs on milkweed and during the next 14 days, a larva is hatched and the larval period begins. Once the larva has grown into a caterpillar, the feeding process is started. It eats leaves in the milkweed as food. After receiving enough food, an attachment is formed getting a tree branch as a support.
This
formation is kept for about 10 days and a chrysalis is created. In order
to begin
the pupal phase, chrysalis

out from the cover as an adult. Following that,
this
butterfly migrates to the South taking about 6 months. The final phase of the cycle is the adult stage. For the purpose of finding a partner,
this
butterfly moves towards the North. Upon finding a suitable fellow, mating is done and eggs are laid on leaves. Again,
this
is followed by the Egg phase and so the cycle begins again.
