The maps reveal developments in the coastal
area
named Portland over 5 decades starting from 1950.
Overall
, the maps illustrate an alternation from a mainly industrial
area
to a large and more tourist
area
. The most notable alternation was that the grassland south of the industrial
area
was cleared and replaced with a new tourist and commercial
area
. New houses were constructed across the
road
. The industrial
area
was demolished and replaced with a swimming pool and park, and
also
the car park was relocated to the industrial
area
. On the north of the
road
, the Yacht Marina was constructed and new apartments replaced the car park. The new shops were constructed on both sides of the
road
on the south, and
also
the new cinema was constructed on one side of the
road
on the southwest. All of
this
construction reduced the grassland
area
. In conclusion, most part of the map was changed between 1950 and 2007, which caused to conversion of the industrial and natural areas to residential and tourist areas.
