You are due to start a new job next week but you will not be able to because you have some problems. Write a letter to your new employer. In your letter • explain your situation • describe your problems • tell him/her when you think you can start.

Dear SIR or Madam, I am writing
this
letter to inform you that I have been appointed to start my new job at your company from next
week
, but unfortunately, I can not join next
week
due to
an accident. After attending a party
last
night, I was coming back home and at that time, faced an accident with a car. Because of the collision, my one hand got injured and the doctor suggested I rest for one
week
to get faster remedies. I am not able to walk properly, even though it would be hard to travel office from the house. Kindly request you to give me some time to start my job and allow me to join the work after a
week
of next
week
. Looking forward to hearing from you. Yours Faithfully, Ankit

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
