The maps below show the village of Stokeford in 1930 and 2010.
The maps illustrate the developments that took place in the village of Stokeford between 1930 and 2010.
Overall
, a comparison of the two maps reveals a complete transformation from a largely rural to a mainly urban area. In the year 1930, the town was a much greener residential area with a large amount of farmland and a small number of
houses
. There were
also
some facilities along the road,
such
as shops and a post office.
However
, during the next 80 years, the town saw a number of significant changes. The most noticeable is that all of the farmland in the west was cleared, with all the shops along the main road being demolished to make space for new housing developments.
In contrast
, to the east of the town, there were only a few
houses
in 1930.
Nevertheless
, the number of
houses
increased because the farmland was cleared. The gardens and large
houses
were removed, making way for a large retirement home and some of the
houses
.
