The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The
table
compares the percentages of consumer
expenditure
for three different categories of products in five countries in 2002. Looking from an
overall
perspective, it is readily apparent that all countries spent a huge portion of their money on
food
,
drinks
, and
tobacco
than other categories.
On the other hand
,
leisure
and
education
had the lowest percentages in the
table
. Consumer spending on
food
,
drinks
and
tobacco
and on
leisure
/
education
are noticeably higher in Turkey, at 32.14% and 4.35%, respectively. With only a negligible difference, at nearly 29%, Ireland is in second place in
food
/
drinks
/
tobacco
expenditure
. Italy, Spain, and Sweden spent less than 19% of their expenditures on
food
,
drinks
and
tobacco
in 2002.
While
the percentages of national consumer
expenditure
in Italy and Sweden on
leisure
and
education
are close to each other, at 3.20%, their
expenditure
on clothing and footwear were quite different, 9% for Italy and only 5.40% for Sweden, which is the lowest percentage in the
table
. The
expenditure
on clothing and footwear for other countries is between 6 and 7 per cent. It is worth mentioning that the percentage of Spain's
expenditure
on
leisure
and
education
is the lowest amount in the
table
, close to 2%.
