Over-reliance on modern technology means that people are failing to learn, or are forgetting, many basic skills. “To what extent is this true? Are people becoming so reliant on modern technology that they are no longer able to do some things without it? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

From one standpoint, excessive reliance on advanced technology may lead to a deterioration of several cognitive skills. Years ago, before technology consumed a big portion of individuals’ lives, every person was forced to rely on their own abilities, which somehow resulted in creative minds. These days, life is so much easier with the help of cutting-edge technologies. Online translators,
for example
, are popular tools among students to find answers as they no longer need to manually open dictionaries or other books to help them with school assignments.
However
,
this
trend
also
generates a decreasing level of knowledge acquisition skills in their daily routines.
Moreover
, the tendency of modern living to depend on technology in certain contexts might influence social relations with others. Ever since online texting and social media were invented, many people, especially young generations seem to spend more time surfing the internet and texting through chat applications
instead
of having real interactions with friends. Even worse, one family may sit together during dinner time without having any conversation since everyone is too busy with his/her phone.
This
phenomenon
also
happens in certain other places
such
as schools and workplaces, where social interactions with friends or co-workers seem no longer necessary.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
