The given table and pie charts provide data regarding the police budget for two years in a row namely 2017 and 2018. The table illustrates the sources of financing and the graphs demonstrate three sections that money was allocated to them. Finances are measured in millions of
pounds
and allocations in percentages.
Overall
, it can be seen that the overwhelming majority of the budget came from the national government and local taxes over the period given.
Furthermore
, the salaries constituted the largest expenditure portion in both years.
Firstly
, on the income side, the national government burdened the highest share of the budget which was 175.5m and 177.8m
pounds
in 2017 and 2018 respectively. After that, the local taxes came in second place contributing 91.2m and 102.3m
pounds
while
other sources including grants were
last
offering 38m and 38.5m
pounds
in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Meanwhile, the total amount of 2017 and 2018 revenues were 304.7m and 318.6m
pounds
respectively. The biggest increase in contribution was for money from local taxes in 2018 in comparison to 2017
while
the increase in the other two categories was marginal.
Secondly
, on the expenditure side, it is evidently noticed that salaries accounted for two-thirds (75%) and 69% of allocation in 2017 and 2018 respectively. After that, 17% of income was dedicated to buildings and transport in both years.
Then
, 8% and 14% of the revenue were designated for technology in 2017 and 2018 respectively. We witness a clear decrease in the percentage of salaries and a noticeable surge of almost double in the money dedicated to technology during the recorded period.
