travelled, time taken (for travelling), and the chosen mode for travelling. In general, there is a visible link between the time spent on travelling and the

distance

covered, with both experiencing similar trends and peaking in the same year. Among modes of travel, the most common one is private transport,

while

public transportation is the least popular among residents of the given country. Between 1995 and 2015, there were significant changes in how much people travelled (in terms of

distance

) and how long it took them to complete their travels. In 1995, the average

distance

travelled was just under 7,000 miles, and it took an average of around 372

hours

to complete. These numbers

then

increased to just under 7150 miles and 380

hours

by the year 2000. In the following five years, these average statistics saw

further

growth and reached a peak of 7180 and 388

in 2005.

, in the next ten years, both the

. As for the mode of travel, people mostly preferred to use private transportation, with figures ranging from 62% to 65% between 1995 and 2015. There was a slight decrease in the percentage of people walking or cycling, dropping from the initial 28% in 1995 to the eventual 24% in 2015, but it was still more preferred than using public transportation, the latter increasing marginally from 9% to 11% in the same time frame.
