The charts below show the change in ownerships of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in housholds in oun country between 1920 to 2019.
There are two line graphs. The first one represents the percentage of households with three different electrical appliances: a washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile, the second graph shows the changing amount of time spent doing
housework
in
hours
per week.
This
data is presented in twenty-year intervals between 1920 and 2019.
Overall
,
it is clear that
the usage of all types of electrical appliances increased over the
years
, with refrigerators experiencing the greatest rise in percentage throughout the period.
In contrast
, the number of
hours
spent on
housework
followed a downward trend from 1920 to 2019. In 1920, the refrigerator was the least used appliance, starting from zero per
cent
, but it increased dramatically, reaching over 90 per
cent
by 1960.
This
was followed by a gradual rise to 100 per
cent
within the next 10
years
, where it remained constant until 2019. Vacuum cleaner ownership steadily rose from 30 per
cent
in 1920 to 100 per
cent
by 2000. Meanwhile, the washing machine showed a minimal gradual increase, starting at around 40 per
cent
and rising slowly to over 70 per
cent
across the given
years
.
According to
the second graph, the amount of time people spent doing
housework
steadily decreased from 50
hours
per week in 1920 to 20
hours
in 1960, and
then
it declined slightly to approximately 10
hours
by the end of the period. In summary,
although
the use of electrical appliances increased significantly over the
years
, particularly refrigerators, which saw the most dramatic rise, the amount of
housework
decreased over the 100-year period.
