Chorleywood is a

adjacent to London, the map above displays the gradual expansion of the village
driven by the growth of the local population.
According to
the map, the village
had been enlarged since 1868, and it mainly expanded along transport systems, like main roads, motorways or railways.
Before 1883, Chorleywood was merely a small village
adhering to a main road, along which the village
gradually extended towards the south. This
expansion almost tripled the size of the village
as a whole. In 1902, a railway crossing the village
was in operation, and the convenience brought by the railway motivated the village
to build up two separate new areas from west to east.
In 1970, people there constructed a longitudinal motorway parallel to the main road. Owing to the new road, the village
was rapidly extended to five new areas from 1970 to 1994 and presented a complex layout along the transport system within the village
