The given diagram illustrates the process that makes it possible to produce energy from the flow of
water
.
Overall
, in a river is built a dam, which forms a high-level
reservoir
on the side and an intake at the bottom where
water
flows.
Firstly
, during the day, because of gravity the
water
passes through the intake making rotate some turbines inside the power station, before ending in a low-level
reservoir
where is collected.
Therefore
, the movement of the turbines, because they are attached to a generator, thanks to hydroelectric power electricity is generated. Afterwards, it is transported to the national grid thanks to power lines.
Lastly
, during the night the opposite happens, from the low-level
reservoir
, the
water
is directed back to the highest one.
This
is possible thanks to the previously mentioned turbines, in fact, they are reversible,
consequently
able to pump the
water
back to the intake to refill the high-level
reservoir
.
