The line graph illustrates the changing rates of crime in three various areas in Newport city centre in the years 2003 and 2012.

apparent that all of these types of crime saw some fluctuations. Looking at the decreases
first,
by 2003
burglary
stood at about 3400, before experiencing a small growth to around 3700 after a year. It started to drop until 2008, reaching over 3000, roughly 2600 and 1600 in 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. The number of incidents of
burglary
increased minimally to nearly 1500, exceeding about 1500 in 2010 and reaching a similar amount as in 2009. In the final year, it ended with a slight fall to about 1400.
Car
theft
and robbery in the beginning,
however
, accounted for around 2700 and 600 which were less than
burglary
, respectively.
While
car
theft
almost still existed in 2004, dropping slightly to about 2700, the number of robbery incidents saw a minimal increase until 2005.
Similarly

theft
from the person dipped moderately until 2008, reaching 500,

theft
experienced some fluctuations and levelled off at just over 2000. In 2009 and 2010 both of them rose slowly to around 2600 and 800, respectively. In 2011,
