task response
Score: 5. Your ideas answer all parts of the question, but they need more detail. Explain how travel or work can help a student before college.
task response
Give one clear example for each main point. For example, work can help a student save money and learn what job they may want in the future.
task response
Make your view stronger. Say that a gap year is good only when the student has a plan, enough money, and a date to go back to study.
coherence and cohesion
Use four short parts: an opening, good points, bad points, and your view at the end. This will make the essay easier to read.
coherence and cohesion
Keep one main idea in each part. Do not put travel, work, mental health, and purpose all in one long part without more order.
coherence and cohesion
Use simple links to show the next idea: “First”, “Also”, “On the other hand”, and “In the end”.
coherence and cohesion
Some sentences are hard to follow because they are too long or not full. For example, change “for example to advantage” to “One advantage is that it can help students think about their future.”
task response
You give both good and bad points about a gap year. You also give your own view at the end.
task response
Your examples are on the topic: travel, work, study habits, cost, and mental health.
coherence and cohesion
You use clear link words such as “However”, “for example”, and “I would argue”.
coherence and cohesion
The order is easy to follow: good points, bad points, then your view.
Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
