Some people think that environmental problems should be solved on a global scale while others believe it is better to deal with them nationally. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

In recent years, the world has had to contend with various enviromental challenges such as waste management and pollution. Some people are of the opinion that enviromental problems should be solved on a global scale. Others however believe it should be dealt with nationally. This essay will discuss both sides of the arguement and say why it should be tackled nationally. The idea of mitigating enviromental challengestogether is championed by organisations such as the United Nations. A major reason for this, is that third world countries will benefit from partnering with more developed countries in achieving their goals. According to a recent report by the United Nations Enviromental Agency, develoing countries are more likely to increase waste recycling activities if supported by a western country or company. For example, the Lagos State goverment in Nigeria recently constructed the largest recyling plant in West Africa. This was as a result of partnering with internaational NGO's; a feat which would not had been possible without the support of the global community. On the other hand, it is popularly said that only a person knows exactly where it hurts. Although an international method for solving enviromental challenges seems attractive, it would create an unbalanced approach which will negatively affect third world countries. This is beacause every country have their own enviromental goals. the developing county would be forced to follow in the footsteps of the developed ones thereby achieving another country's goal and not theirs. For example, the international community recommended a net zero carbon footprint for all countries. Sadly, this has a negative effect on the industrialisation of developing nations thereby creating an adverse effect on the need to tackle enviromental carbon dioxide pollution in such country's. In conclusion, a national plan on solving enviromental issues is preferable. Countries will be able to select and prioritize the goals. However, they can also possibly look out for other countries wih similar goals and partner with them if need be.
