Recently, there has been an alarming increase in the amount of
waste
we are generating as a society. One of the main reasons why
this
bad habit is on the rise, is that people are now becoming more wasteful and things are now cheaper.
This
is challenging for every
government
, but I believe that instructing schools to start educating children about the importance and need of proper management of resources as well as increasing taxes of commonly disposed items will solve
this
problem.
The primary reason why an average home is now producing more trash than before is solely because humans are now wasteful.
In other words
, we are likely to trash something rather than look for an alternative use for it. Because of the advancement in technology, most things are readily available so we no longer value them.
For instance
, in the past after peeling an orange and eating it, one can still use it to make juice
instead
of trashing them, but now we have all kinds of orange drinks available and
as a result
of
this
we no longer value them.
Furthermore
, another reason for
this
new development is that things are not as expensive as they use to be.
For example
, there was only one company that produces bottled water in Angola for several years, which make it quite expensive and
as a result
of
this
. People usually keep the bottle after drinking the water to serve another purpose like a juice container.
However
,
this
is no longer the case since we have a lot of factories now making bottled water and it’s now affordable by the masses.
How can the
government
solve
this
problem?
Firstly
, they should encourage schools to start teaching children how not to
waste
things. They are the upcoming generation and starting with them is the very
first
step and
also
a long time solution to
this
issue.
Secondly
, the
government
should increase the taxes on the commonly wasted items as
this
will make people to be less wasteful and
this
money can
also
go into research on how to reduce
waste
in the community.
To conclude, there is a significant amount of
waste
being generated by humans currently than we did decades ago and
this
because we are richer now and no longer appreciate things. The
government
can end all that by inflating the taxes on commonly wasted items and
also
educating the youngsters.
