Because of modern technology, some people believe that it is no longer necessary for people to learn handwriting skills, but others believe that handwriting is still an important skill. Discuss both views and give your opinion based on your experience

The advancement of modern
technology
brings fundamental changes in our daily lives, including the aspect of writing. Nowadays, writing can be done through electronic devices, thereby producing a uniform and more-controlled writing, which is suitable for formal or informal purposes.
This
highlights an issue of whether handwriting skills are still important and necessary to be learned.
Therefore
, in
this
essay I will elaborate more regarding the two opposing views and my opinion regarding
this
matter. Handwriting skills might still be perceived as important to some because current
technology
is still unable to fully replace conventional handwriting due to several reasons, including the cost, availability, preference, and purpose of the writing. In some parts of the world, the
technology
which allows us to write using an electronic device is still considered expensive and availability

for various purposes,
such
as wanting to give a personal touch to the writing, practicing some form of handwriting-related art, minimizing the risk of counterfeits, et cetera.
However

this
gap by speeding the process of writing, especially for younger generations who are already trained properly to utilize

. Globalization and the advent of

use of these devices possible even in the developing countries. These are some of the probable reasons in

of replacing handwriting skill in today’s world. From my point of view as a doctor in Indonesia, I think handwriting is still an essential skill to learn. Writing patients’ history and physical examination results on medical records are still the norms. Even though we do have an online medical record system in place, in reality, the implementation of
this
technology
is still suboptimal.
Therefore
, we mainly rely on handwriting to fill out forms and records daily. It is important that we possess a decent handwriting skill, because – in spite of many people’s beliefs that doctors’ handwritings are bad and should be bad – we might endanger the patient if our writings were unreadable.
For example
, if we write a prescription for a certain drug,
then
it is mistaken by the pharmacist for a different drug, imagine the damage that we could’ve caused to the patient, all because of a bad handwriting. In conclusion, I think in some ways, it is still important for us to learn handwriting skills, but I’m open to the possibilities in the near future that electronic-mediated writing will replace handwriting as the norm.
