Zakat
: The literal, or denotative, definition of the word ‘zakât’ (sometimes spelled ‘zakâh’) is “increase,” as in growth (namâ). The word

connotes “blessings” (
barakah
), “purification” (tahârah), or “commendation” (mad^).
