Some people say that arts subjects such as painting or drawing should not be made compulsory for high school students. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Arts subjects
such
as painting or drawing have become increasingly unpopular in high school
. Some people claim that it is not needed for students to learn some arts subjects in high school
. From my perspective, I partly agree with this
statement because of both benefits and drawbacks of teaching arts subjects to high school
students.
There is no denial that studying arts subjects is advantageous to some extent. The first
benefit is that art classes are a form of recreational activities for pupils. If these students only concentrate on academic subjects, they are likely to experience stress or depressed. For example
, Vietnamese students need to learn 10 different academic subjects in high school

learning, arts
such
as painting or singing might help them relax after stressful study schedule. Additionally
, putting art classes as syllabus into the school
could help to discover talents. This
allows those who are good at arts have chances to express their talents. Thus
, it is better for these pupils learn arts instead
of stressful academic subjects.
However
, arts subjects in high school
can bring some negative effects on students. Firstly
, High school
students might have no time for other important subjects such
as mathematics or languages if arts subjects are compulsory. For example
, in Asian countries, especially in Vietnam, high school
students have to take three main subjects including maths, literature, English in the university entrance exam, which requires students to put much effort into these subjects. Secondly
, it would be tough for those who are not interested in arts subjects to stay focus on the lecture. Therefore
, this
could be a waste of time and money.
In conclusion, teaching arts such
as painting or drawing could bring both positive and negative effects on students. However
, school
authorities should open art classes for pupils to entertain but
not be made compulsory.Accept comma addition
