Should students be allowed to choose which classes they take, or should they be required to take the same classes as everyone else? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each approach to education? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

While some people argue that pupils ought to attend the same classes, others argue that students should select whatever suits them from classes.
Although
there are benefits of each approach, other disadvantages may occur due to adopt one approach only. I believe, on the one
hand
, that there are specific merits for students who prefer to select their classes. The main reason is that some students are born with talents.
Therefore
, it is much better to gather them in the same classes to
study
at the same pace. Another advantage is that students with fewer abilities are not left behind, which may frustrate them.
On the other
hand
, I think there are some demerits of
this
trend.
To begin
with, students who are in lower classes may feel by stigmatization.
This
is because their colleagues have superiority in the eyes of everyone. Another point is that the lower group may feel content to stay at the same level rather than challenge their classmates.
However
, the other approach of attending the same classes as everyone has other benefits.
Initially
, all students will take the chance to compete with each other. In Egypt,
for instance
, there are some schools, which have a competition every month between lower-level, and
first
-class students to improve their competency.
Furthermore
, another advantage is that students with different capabilities can give a
hand
to each other, which may broaden their knowledge.
In contrast
, there are two main disadvantages to
this
trend.
Firstly
, gifted students may not get the chance to finish school early because of the fixed number of classes.
Secondly
, students with low abilities may face difficulties with
study
the syllabus.
This
is because the material could be difficult and unsuitable for their capabilities. In conclusion, teaching students in different classes has some merits in terms of the speed of
study
and taking care of lower abilities' students.
On the other
hand
, there are demerits,
such
as the frustration of lower-class students and lack of challenging.
Although
the other trend has some advantages like increasing the competition between students and assist each other, there are other negative sides in terms of delaying the talented students, and difficulties

in
the
study

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
