As countries develop, more and more people buy and use their own cars. Do the advantages of this trend for individuals outweigh the disadvantages for the environment?

The advantages have clearly won because of the freedom of movement it gives an individual to be able to commute at anytime and anywhere without any hindrance. Whether as a luxury or a necessity, owning a car is very important, notwithstanding the effects it might have on the environment.
