In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
In the modern world, youngsters are advised to be employed or explore the world during the gap year. There are several benefits and drawbacks of
this
. Throughout this
essay, I will discuss both.
To begin
with, seek employment soon after finishing high school is ideal as youngsters can be financially stable before starting tertiary education
. it gives young adults the much needed financial freedom before going back to studies again. Moreover
, by travelling between gap year would give teenagers the crucial relaxation they require before university education
. To explain more, students have already passed a hectic academic schedule when they finish high school. Thus
, it is important to have some time off from studies before continuing higher education
. For instance
, a recent study done in Europe has concluded that 80% of students who have relaxing summer breaks, tend to succeed in university.
Nevertheless
, there are few negativities in this
trend. Children could lose interest in education
once they had a year-off working. The focus on education
could be replaced by cash as soon as they start earning. In fact, 95% of high school students in Russia had given up tertiary education
because of summer employment. Additionally
, travelling for 12 months between studies could actually end up increasing debts. Since young adults do not have a stable income or savings they have to borrow money from someone and more often than not they will not be able to pay that back. University education
is expensive enough and you do not want to enter into that carrying debt in your shoulders.
To sum up, working or travelling between summer break can certainly give youngsters the financial freedom and relaxation but it can sometimes take them away from their academic goals or can make them debtors.Submitted by shalithfdo on
