Most people prefer shopping in supermarkets nowadays. How does this affect the local shops? What are the positive and negative impacts of this development?

Supermarkets are becoming increasingly popular, leaving the local stores far behind in the competition. The reason for
such
a phenomenon is the enhanced shopping experience for consumers. Overall it is a positive trend, and
this
stand shall be explained
further
in the essay. According to the latest statistics, most people are now favouring supermarkets for the simple reason that everything they require can be shopped from under one roof like groceries, apparels, electronics, toiletries and so on. Supermarkets have a large air-conditioned ambience, along with organized departments and trained, friendly staff to assist customers with their shopping requirements.
Moreover
, supermarkets stock a variety of brands and products which make the consumer’s selection wider and his choice a more well informed one. Unlike certain malpractices of the local shops, say of promoting a particular brand only, supermarkets take the feedback of their customers and stock products
accordingly
. Since supermarkets stock products in a larger quantity, they are able to quote them in prices cheaper than other smaller retail stores. Many supermarket chains run offers and discount coupon schemes.
Also
, some supermarkets
also
offer home delivery services which is undoubtedly a considerable benefit.
Although
there is a drawback of more time being consumed in search of items, it can be passed upon as shopping is becoming more of a leisure time activity day by day. Catering to
this
need, some supermarkets
also
house a food court, making the consumers’ shopping time a very enjoyable one. Needless to say, superstores are definitely the more preferred choice by consumers. The convenient and cheaper shopping experience, along with trusted quality products has marked their rationalized rise in the market.
