Some people prefer to live in a house while others feel that there are more advantages to living in an apartment. Are there more advantages than disadvantages of living in a house compared with living in an apartment?

Although
living in a
house
is thought by some to be superior to living in an
apartment
, other
people
consider the latter to be the preferable option. I reckon, living in a
house
has more demerits than living in an
apartment
for several reasons which will be elucidated in the ensuing paragraphs. To commence with,
firstly
apartments
are usually gated communities so they are a lot more secure. To elaborate, as most
apartments
would have some sort of access cards for residents and stickers to identify their vehicles, any visitors or guests will
first
have to go through the security and approval from the residents before allowing them inside. Apart from
this
, having usually several entrances,
houses
are more inviting to burglary, especially when the owners are on a holiday.
Hence
, the security parameters are better than one can afford in a
house
.
For instance
, in an article in The Washington Post in June 2017, it was envisaged that 84% of murders or robberies took place in the villas whereas only 5% of burglaries reported in flats. Moving ahead, as
apartments
are easily manageable, they require less maintenance. To explain, as life is more stressful than ever,
people
have less time on hand.
As a result
, it is much easier to manage an
apartment
than an independent
house
.
Moreover
, most
apartments
have housekeeping facilities that take care of all the cleaning and maintenance work, which we would have to manage ourselves if we live in a
house
. To illustrate, a research conducted by Oxford University in June 2019, unveiled that 20 out of 50 families staying in
apartments
being a workaholic are able to keep it in apple-pie order compared to those in a
house
.
Furthermore
,
apartments
have common facilities like recreational areas for kids, swimming pools, sports, clubhouses, and so on. To clarify, as one does not have to travel outside of their home to access these facilities,
this
results in a lot of time savings.
In addition
to
this
, parents
also
feel it’s easier for them to allow their kids to play freely without any supervision.
For example
, a survey conducted by INC in March 2018 revealed 80% of the masses who participate in vocational activities reside in
apartments
as compared to the
people
who live in
houses
.
On the other hand
, living in an independent
house
has a larger area than
apartments
. As
houses
are certainly more spacious, owners can freely utilise and modify the space based on their convenience, which is hard to achieve in an
apartment
. To elucidate, since these types of dwellings have space for gardens, porches, swimming pools, and garages,
this
can provide a more comfortable living.
Additionally
, as
houses
are located in remote areas and are away from the hustle-bustle of the city,
people
living in
houses
are less prone to stress-related diseases. To exemplify, an article in the magazine The Forbes, shed light on the value of spacious
houses
and their lifestyle, making it appear 53% better than residing in
apartments
. To conclude,
apartments
and
houses
have their set of pros and cons.
However
, I opine that
apartments
satisfy the needs of our modern lifestyle better than independent
houses
.
