You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Modern communications mean that it’s no longer necessary to write letters. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. You should write at least 250 words.
Social media platforms have created a huge impact on
people
's lives. Youngsters have let go of the habit of writing letters
and postcards to their dear ones ,instead
they are now inclined towards communicating on daily basis with their families and friends. Though some Add a comma
,instead
people
find modern practices annoying, I think adapting to the current lifestyle helps us to cope with technological advancements.
In the olden days, humans used post offices and even birds as a medium of communication. People
had all the time to write long letters
and express their thoughts without spending a lot of money. All it took was to post their writing and wait for days, weeks even months to get it delivered. It is true that letter writing helped humans to express themselves better. Personal and professional relationships relied a lot on offline communication until the era of the internet. For instance
, back then
, people
would be excited to receive letters
with stamps in them, as it mostly was a sign that the person had been offered a government job.
On the flip side, though the aforementioned statements convey the significance of letter writing, it is also
a fact that long letters
cause the readers to overlook the crux of the issue. Emails, chats have a field called subject which helps viewers to identify the topic of discussion. Instagram posts and Facebook pictures help users to understand the conversation within a blink of an eye. This
saves the users from spending time reading through the entire conversation in order to grasp the topic. Facebook memes and one-liners can be considered as best examples. Writing notes and emails in a precise manner to the ruling party has led the way to faster fulfilment of the public's requests.
To conclude, I think humans will have to step up and start using social media platforms for their communication. Following recent changes will make human lives easier, and also
contribute towards building a developed nation.Submitted by ramyamahatma on

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
