Illiteracy continues to be a concern for many countries in the world today. What are the causes of illiteracy in the modern world, and what effects does it have on the people concerned and society on society as a whole?

In many states, illiteracy is one of the long-lasting problems, especially in developing countries these days. There seem to be two main causes and three effects, which we will discuss here. Possibly the main cause is the difficult living condition, including poverty. Children born in a poor family can’t get proper education because parents can only provide basic needs
such
as food, clothes and shelter.
This
can be challenging for parents to buy the necessary things for their children going to school. Another well-known cause is parents with little schooling, leading to paying less attention to their kids’ education.
This
attitude can result in children’s academic performance.
Furthermore
, children might lose interest in learning and drop out of school. The effects of
this
problem on
people
and society can be quite serious.
Firstly
, illiterate
people
have some difficulty in obtaining new skills and learning, understanding the basic structure. It seems that lower-quality jobs can be found for illiterate
people
. Illiterate
people
are usually paid less because of limited knowledge. A long-term impact is the higher the proportion of adults with low literacy proficiency can be an obstacle for the growth rate of long-term GDP.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
